สำนวนนี้ หมายถึง การพูดอ้อมค้อม ไม่เข้าประเด็น หรือพูดวกไปวนมา
ถ้าจะบอกให้ใครพูดมาตรงๆ ไม่ต้องอ้อมค้อมก็บอกว่า "Don't beat around/ about the bush!"
Meaning: If someone is beating around the bush, they are not getting to the point. They may talk around an issue, but are trying to avoid the direct point of a conversation.

> We haven't talked about it directly; we've been beating around the bush.
Origin: The first recording of this phrase is in the 1400s. It was said that workers hired to hunt wild boar would beat the bushes to have the boar run out from the bushes so they were in plain site, This was to avoid direct contact since boar were very dangerous and aggressive if provoked. One would not want to be caught off guard by a wild boar. Therefore, since beating the bush for boar was to avoid direct contact, the term was born.
