FOR
ใช้กับเวลา แปลว่า "เป็นเวลา....." ตามด้วยช่วงเวลาที่บอกว่า นานเท่าไร ใช้ได้กับทุก tense และ for อาจจะละออกจากประโยคได้
ถ้าใช้ for กับ present perfect จะแสดงอาการกระทำในปัจจุบัน และ for ใช้ถามกับ how long
• For (ละ for ได้) how long have you worked on this book?
• I have worked on this book for two months.
(แต่ How long ago (หรือ When) did you start to work on this book? I started to work on this book two months ago.)
for ในความหมายอื่นๆ
for ever = ตลอดไป
for life = ตลอดชีวิต
for fear that = ด้วยกลัวว่า
for want of หรือ for lack of = เพราะไม่มี....
for all = despite ทั้งๆ ที่
(For all his wealth, he was unhappy.)
for all that = ทั้งๆ ที่เป็นเช่นนั้น (ใช้เหมือน although)
for all I know = ฉันจะไปรู้หรือ
(He may be in Bangkok for all I know.)
for certain = โดยแน่นอน
